Museums and Palaces
The Palácio dos Paes do Amaral (the Counts of Anadia) is considered to be one of the most beautiful stately homes in Beira Alta. It was built in 1724 at the initiative of Simão Paes do Amaral, the noble servant of the king Dom Afonso VI, a professed knight of the Order of Christ, Commander of Mangualde, and Governor of the District of Viseu.
It is thought that the design of this monument can be attributed to the architect Nicolau Nasoni, who was resident at that time in the city of Porto.
The palace underwent some alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, resulting in its being transformed into a magnificent example of a past time when art and sophistication were the hallmarks of a particularly important period in Portuguese culture. Inside, attention is drawn to the beautiful 18th-century tiled panels.
