Born from a rain-fed agriculture, the dried fruits - almond, fig and carob – have played an important role in the economy since the Middle Ages. This Algarvian “gold” provided a high social development and took the name Loulé to far away destinations through this industry. In this ancient processing and marketing industry of dried fruits, deactivated in the eighties of the past century, are some evidences of a golden era in the Algarvian agriculture.
