Restaurants and Cafés

"O Cartaxeiro" is the oldest restaurant in Caneças, and probably the oldest in the municipality of Odivelas.

Throughout its life it has been run by many people who, through their work, sacrifice and struggle, created, maintained and enriched the restaurant.

The following lines are, thus, our recognition of all those people thanks to whom this restaurant today still retains its original image and characteristics that made, and makes, "O Cartaxeiro" part of the culture of "Caneças" and, as well, part of the "Saloia" culture.

In gastronomic terms, we concentrate on Traditional Portuguese Cuisine, putting special emphasis on the richness of "Saloio" gastronomy.

We have put new life and new proportions into some of the traditional recipes of the region. This involved carrying out research into the efforts of those men and women who, with their constant hard work, have created a set of roots and points of culinary reference. We have thus tried to awaken and revive the richness of our cultural heritage so that we can realise our objective of becoming a standard for regional gastronomy and, consequently, a "sanctuary" for fine Portuguese cuisine.
