Museu Escolar de Marrazes
Museums and Palaces
The Marrazes School Museum was founded in 1992 on the initiative of a group of teachers at the Marrazes primary school, who decided to hold an exhibition entitled "The School Through the Ages".
The exhibition continued until 1995 in a small room in the school, with books, documents, teaching material and furniture, until the Parish Council provided a larger, more suitable space.
In 1997, the museum itself was opened. This comprises eight rooms dedicated to the themes of Geology, Handicrafts and Carpentry, the Classroom, Portuguese Youth, Traditional Toys, Books before Castilho, the End of the Monarchy, the 1st Republic and the Dictatorship, illustrating the evolution of teaching in Portugal since the middle of the 19th century.
There is also a space for temporary exhibitions.
