Anta de São Gens

Anta de São Gens

Archaeology

Located on the road that connects Alpalhão to the Fadagosa de Nisa Hot Springs, Saint Genesius’ Anta 1 is a simple, circular megalithic monument composed of 5 rectangular pillars stuck in the ground and inclined inwards, covered by a single slab. It features a short corridor, separated from the chamber by a door, some of the stones of which have been preserved.

Dating back to the end of the Neolithic period (3500 - 2000 BC), this monument - also known as the Town of Nisa Anta - is part of a group of four Saint Genesius’ Antas, of which this is the best preserved and the best known.
