The Alentejo by Marion Rivolier
She remembers Portugal from childhood holidays in the Algarve, and more recently in Lisbon and Porto. Visiting the Alentejo for the first time was an amazing discovery. She would have liked to stay longer. She enjoyed the contrast between the architecture and nature, between the white of the houses and the warm colours of the plains. She secured the blue of the sky, which she regards as a very important detail, since it can completely change our perception of a place. The people, always very friendly, and a rich and tasty cuisine also stayed in her memory of this trip.
She tried to capture the Alentejo in different ways to show the more deeply hidden details and the beauty or the individuality of the sites and monuments, of how the weather has been leaving its mark on the Roman Temple of Évora, the profile of the walls of Monsaraz, the landscape of Alqueva, the white houses of Campo Maior and the medieval village of Marvão. To convey her impressions and feelings she used colours, light, shadow and contrast.

Marion Rivolier
Marion is a set designer and artist. She lives and works in Paris.
She has been painting and sketching in the open air for more than 10 years. Whether in Paris or when travelling, she spends time painting, especially in watercolour.
She likes painting bodies in motion and even in the landscape she looks for the same dynamic through the colours, the light or the local people. She paints quickly, as if the subject might disappear at any moment. Urban Scenes, interior spaces or other features are caught without an outline, with rapid strokes of colour.
Her favourite themes are architecture, art and artists. She likes to visit and discover exhibitions, museums and installations by other artists and to explore their work through sketching.
