Architecture Routes
Portugal concentrates a large number of works of reference in contemporary national and international architecture. Get to know the country by visiting architectural works that reflect the context, ideas and intention of the authors, in an experience that values direct contact with place and forms.
To help you in this discovery, there are various proposed routes that you can take on your own or with a specialised guide, where you can enjoy various itineraries, each with a detailed view of the authors' works. Álvaro Siza, winner of the Mies Van der Rohe (1988) and Pritzker (1992) prizes, as well as Eduardo Souto de Moura, also winner of the Pritzker prize (2011), are renowned architects whose work can be enjoyed in greater detail on these itineraries.
In the Porto and North Region, you can find works such as Museu de Arte Contemporânea Nadir Afonso [Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art] (Chaves), Braga Municipal Stadium (Braga), Piscina das Marés [Tides Pools] and Casa de Chá da Boa Nova [Boa Nova Tea House] (Leça da Palmeira) or even Casa das Artes [House of Arts] (Porto).

In Lisbon, the Terminal de Cruzeiros (Cruise Terminal) and the new Campo das Cebolas are two unmissable projects that mark the urban intervention in the riverside area of the city.
If you prefer to do the tour yourself, there will be no shortage of opportunities to be surprised by numerous important works all over the territory (mainland and the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores). Some examples, such as the Centro de Remo de Alto Rendimento do Pocinho [Pocinho High Performance Rowing Centre] (Vila Nova de Foz Côa), or the Centro de Vigilância e Investigação das Furnas [Furnas Surveillance and Research Centre] (São Miguel, Azores), or the Casa das Mudas - Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Madeira [Madeira Contemporary Art Museum] (Calheta, Madeira), are a few incentives to discover the territory with the aim of understanding and getting to know contemporary Portuguese architecture.
