The Bragança Ciência Viva Centre is located where, in 1914, during the  first World War, the French engineer named Lucien Guerche installed a power plant to produce electricity.

The Ciência Viva designed by Giulia Appolonia, an Italian architect, integrates innovative solutions to climatise indoor spaces and save energy. This is achieved using a system that works as an interactive module where visitors can, in real-time and through new technologies, observe the behaviour of several control systems of the building.

The permanent exhibition modules are dedicated to science, particularly to the geological and biological heritage of the region, dominated by the Montesinho Natural Park, as well as the energy environment and recycling. The centre also includes the House of Silk, restored with the original characteristics of an old mill, integrating ancient local and regional elements alongside new contents of scientific dissemination
