Museu do Bordado e do Barro – Nisa
Museums and Palaces
Located in Nisa’s historic centre, The Museum of Embroidery and Clay focuses on preserving, studying, and promoting the town’s most significant cultural heritage: its famous “stoned” pottery and traditional embroidery.
Providing a simple and interactive approach, the museum teaches visitors the techniques and history of these arts, strengthening the connection between visitors, the local community and artisans, and promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The Central Hub, located in the Cadeia Nova (New Prison) building, houses a permanent exhibition of the pieces of greatest historical and artistic value. Other exhibits include the Embroidery Hub, which recreates a traditional Nisa environment and the Clay Hub, where visitors can observe pottery production techniques in real-time.
The Temporary Exhibition Area complements the permanent exhibitions, providing a rich and comprehensive experience of Nisa's culture and crafts.
