Museums and Palaces

The Porto de Mós Municipal Museum aims to present the municipality’s historical, cultural, and natural heritage. Having opened in 1989, the museum is organised into several areas dedicated to archaeology, ethnography, geology, and palaeontology.

Pieces linked to medieval and Roman heritage and related to geological resources and coal mining in the Lena River basin are displayed. Visitors to the museum can also view ceramic collections produced by the Royal Juncal Factory between 1770 and 1876.

The museum has made dissemination, research, and preservation efforts geared towards enhancing the municipality of Porto de Mós’s identity and heritage.
