Santuário de Cristo Rei

Памятники
Facing Lisbon from a hill overlooking the Tagus River, 113 meters above the water, the Christ the King Monument rises, arms outstretched in a welcoming gesture that seeks to reach all of humanity. The statue stands on a pedestal composed of four arches, representing the four cardinal points. As the arch is an architectural expression of triumph, it symbolizes the victory of Christ’s love over the world, also represented by the ring surrounding the entire Monument. The arm position, in the form of a cross, adds to the Christian symbolism and gives the figure clear contours, making it more visible and distinct.
The statue is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with His prominent heart, 1.89 meters tall, symbolising Christ’s love for humanity and His desire to draw all hearts to Him. The full height of the monument is 110 meters — the statue is 28 m and the pedestal 82 m. The base of the monument measures 625 m², with each side being 25 meters long.
