Tours and Other Tourism Services
In the Murganheira wine cellars, visitors will discover a fresh and aromatic, quality Portuguese sparkling wine, produced with the finest grape varieties, inspired by the French method.
Integrated within the Távora-Varosa wine-producing region, the Murganheira wine-cellars were founded in 1947 and produce around one million bottles of sparkling wine every year. The finest national and foreign grape varieties are used in the production process, such as Malvasia Fina, Gouveio Real, Cerceal, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir. Grapes are harvested manually thus enabling a good selection of grapes.
The sparkling wine requires a 3-year maturation process, during which time it is stored in the wine cellars, carefully aligned in "glass walls" measuring around 3 bottles high. The cellars are well worth a visit, due to their originality - they are dug into the blue granite rock thus creating an ideal environment for conservation of the sparkling wine.
