Church Espírito Santo - Évora
Sponsored by the Cardinal D. Henrique, future king of Portugal, it was completed in 1574. It is one of the first jesuits churches of the world and a fundamental milestone in the current Portuguese plainstyle architecture.
Inside, the amplitude and luminosity of the space are enhanced by the excellence of the artistic ensemble and devotional, from the outset the glow of the gilded altars pieces from the chancel of the church and the ten altars of the chapels of the nave.
The use of decorative grammar of enormous iconographic and symbolic value in conjunction with the effect of the loopholes marble, sixteenth-century mural painting with particular emphasis on the enfire compositions of the ceiling of the new sacristy, framing episodes of the life St. Ignatius Loyola, and so many others to show the vocation of those priests to teaching and preaching.
