Revelim de Santo António, Centro de Interpretação do Território - Castro Marim
Monuments
The Ravelin of Santo António is a small fort that was built by King João IV at the beginning of the Restoration War (1640-1668) and is strategically aligned with the Castle and the Fort of São Sebastião (Saint Sebastian).
The redevelopment of this area in 2008 made it possible to rehabilitate the military structure of ravelin, the chapel, the mill and the entire surrounding area. Support infrastructures were built, as well as the Territorial Interpretation Centre, a space for welcoming visitors and the starting point for those who want to get to know the region.
The centre enjoys a prime location and a charming view over the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Marshland Nature Reserve and the mouth of the River Guadiana. Here, you can learn more about Castro Marim's historical, natural and cultural heritage and discover the best routes for getting to know the territory of this municipality and the Lower Guadiana region.
