Escoural Archaeological Park
Prehistoric grotto with vestiges of Paleolithic paintings and engravings. The area, that is a National Monument, was occupied in the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras and had subsequent human occupation. The small hill covering the grotto includes an open-air rupestrian sanctuary, dating from the late Neolithic era and a fortified settlement from the Copper Age. There is a “tholos” located in the environs – a megalithic beehive-shaped tomb with a false dome.
