Railway stations
Santa Apolónia Station was inaugurated on 1 May 1865. Built on a site where a monastery with the same name formerly stood, the station comprised just one storey at the time of its opening. It was not considered as being of any great importance until 1873, when it began to be used as an embarkation hub for travellers from all over Europe heading across the Atlantic.
