Museums and Palaces
Housed in the Igreja de São Pedro since 2004, the Sacred Art Museum exhibits a group of objects used for devotional and liturgical purposes, presented to the public in an impressive display under the title of “Visions of the Invisible – Sacred Art in the Diocese of Beja”.
The church has a simple architectural design, with a granite doorway, but the walls of its interior are lined with a rich decoration of 18th-century polychrome tiles in blue, white and yellow. Also worthy of note is the chancel, where the tile covering is a representation of curtains pulled apart to reveal the high altar, which produces a baroque scenographic effect.
