The Museum has taken over the building formerly home to the College of São Jerónimo and was inaugurated on December 11th 1987.
Its exhibition is contemporary in nature, from the late 19th century onwards, covering the fields of ceramics, medals, embossing and jewellery, textiles, painting, sculpture and engraving, musical instruments, record, photography, documentary and poster archives along with a library.
The collection is contemporary covering from the end of the 19th century through to current times.
Under the tutelage of the University, the Academic Museum seeks to bring together, preserve and promote the social, artistic and cultural values of the academic community, including both its traditions and history.
