Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira
Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira
Museums and Palaces
Dating back to the 17th c, the palace is decorated with azulejos from that period and rocaille stucco work from the 18th c. Also from this period is the furniture, which comes from a variety of sources, including Indo-Portuguese furniture, a Spanish screen, paintings and tapestries. The Battles Room contains a series of azulejos depicting the story of the first Marquis of Fronteira, a hero in the War of Restoration fought against Spain in 1640.
Outside, attention is drawn to the Garden of Venus and the formal 17th c. garden with its Kings' Gallery.
