Inaugurated on 21st September 1995, the Calheta Youth Centre is a quaint traditional Madeira house, which has been adapted to suit the needs of a Youth Hostel. Located on the southern coast of the island, Calheta is the largest district on the Isle of Madeira and its most attractive features are the protected area known as the Laurissilva Forest (world heritage) and the living traditional activities such as the production of bananas, wine and sugar cane.
