Formerly a small fishing village, Armação de Pêra has now become one of the most popular resorts on the Algarve with every form of entertainment and recreation. In the old part of the city, the charm of the traditional squat fisherman's houses has been preserved with the Beach just in front proving a favourite among sunbathers.
The eastern area of the sand, still within the urban area, is known as Pescadores (Fisherman's) Beach and is still used for the sale of fish, repairing nets and the suchlike.
