Maritime beach
Known as the Palheiros (Huts) of Mira due to the wooden constructions used by the fishermen, throughout the first half of the 20th century Mira Beach was a fishing village with its daily life well depicted in the Ethnographic Museum exhibition to be found in a now restored hut.
Nowadays Mira Beach is a very popular destination with its fine, white sands flanked by dunes and with the strong waves of the Atlantic Ocean also attracting many surfers. Beyond the dunes, within the Mata Nacional protected area, with its prevailing pine aroma, contains the Barrinha Lagoon with its calm waters providing excellent conditions for sailing, canoeing or windsurfing.
