Quinta Verde Sintra
A traditional country side house about midway between Sintra and the beaches, Quinta Verde Sintra is well away from the road, with distant green hills all around. This is a family home with a very friendly atmosphere. Nature is bountiful here and honeysuckle, bougainvillea, palms, bay trees, cedar and succulents wrap the house around. Inside, the sitting rooms have comfortable sofas, terracotta floors and typical Portuguese flourishes like a collection of old plates on the walls. The suites have large sitting rooms and well-equipped kitchens. The bedrooms have a mixture of wooden and metal beds, tile floors with small rugs with matching fabrics on drapes and bedspreads; bathrooms are sparkling. Breakfast, a generous spread, is taken at the tables-for-two in the breakfast room, with its large fireplace at one end, or out on the terrace, looking out to the lush Sintra hills; see if you can pick out the Moorish castle, Pena Palace, Monserrate house, the Quinta da Regaleira and Palácio de Seteais.
