McNamara embarks upon a ‘surf trip’ to promote Portugal

“McNamara Surf Trip – The documentary from the Portuguese Coast” is the name of the project introduced today by Turismo de Portugal, on Carcavelos Beach in Cascais. The famous North American surfer, Garrett McNamara, has toured every region in Portugal to produce 7 films advertising his personal choices of the best the country has to offer to international audiences.

The fame of Garrett McNamara, who surfed a 30-meter high wave on the Northern beach of Nazaré in January 2013, and his affinity with Destination Portugal were the major reasons for the launch of this project by Turismo de Portugal, which consists of videos featuring the surfer himself and advertising his choices. The aim of the films, produced by Bro Cinema, is to advertise Destination Portugal to an international market and they will be broadcast primarily on surfer channels on the Internet and social networks.

The 30-meter high wave which McNamara surfed on the Northern beach of Nazaré in January 2013 made history as the biggest wave ever to be surfed and made the headlines in the British newspaper, The Times, confirming Portugal as the Number One destination in Europe and one of the major destinations in the world for people seeking beaches for leisure and nautical sports.
