With the Ria Formosa and the Atlantic Ocean so close at hand, the Living Science Centre of the Algarve features an exhibition devoted to the sea. How old are the bottoms of today's oceans? Why does the earth shake? What colour is the sea and why is it salty? How are waves formed? Is coral an animal, a plant or a mineral? These are just a few of the many questions you will find the answers to as you accompany "Sal and his friends" on an educational adventure to learn about the nature and biodiversity of the sea.

And at the very heart of the exhibition area, visitors can also take advantage of the Cyber Café to surf the net for information while observing the inhabitants of the neighbouring coral aquarium. There is also a multipurpose area with lots of scientific goings-on and which can be used as a workshop, laboratory or a venue for birthday parties. Here you can experiment with the magic of electricity, "unravel" DNA, cook with solar energy, follow the paths of light, investigate the world with a magnifying glass or live the adventure of the senses, among many other activities.

The centre also features a greenhouse laboratory, a roof terrace where astronomy activities are held regularly and an additional space that can be used for talks or small exhibitions.
