Quinta de Cartemil
The Farmhouse of Cartemil is situated in Gemieira, Ponte de Lima, the most ancient town in Portugal. Land known by the beauty of the river, which lent it its name, by its rich gastronomy, typical of the region, and by the cultural and architectural patrimony.
It is situated 50 minutes from Porto, 35 minutes from Braga and 30 minutes from Viana do Castelo. In the heart of the northern region of MINHO on the way to Santiago de Compostela, situated in the region called COSTA VERDE, the Farm of Cartemil is privileged by its location next to the river, the sea and the mountains. The House of the Farm, as it is also known, is referred to by its enviable position in the landscape and by its exposition to the sun, with the lands of the so called Ribeira Lima at its feet and with a view into an endless landscape, surrounded by scented woods, vineyards, orchards and by pure water that sprouts from the springs of the farm.
The house has its origins in the XVI century, connected to the family Souza e Menezes, having its establishment as an entail in 1632, as it is referenced to in ancient documents. During the XIX century it belonged to the Family of the Earls of Calheiros, whose daughter, D. Maria Ana de Calheiros de Menezes – Viscountess of Maiorca – later left it by testament to a family member. Even nowadays, the farmhouse is known as “the House of the Viscountess”. Her relatives and current owners renewed this house completely as well as its vineyards, which produce an excellent wine known as Vinho Verde.
This residence has five rooms with private bathroom and independent entrance. Its adornment combines the classical beauty to the modern comfort. All the rooms are equipped with heating, television and access to free Wi-Fi. The guests can use the breakfast room in which there is a fireplace, a common living-room and a panoramic room into the outer spaces. The farmhouse also allows the guests to take advantage of a kitchenette, a dining-room, a playroom and a library. Outside, the guests can enjoy the gardens, the swimming-pool and a surrounding area ideal to make pedestrian walks around the orchard, the vineyard and the woods.
