Casa Costa Lobo
Tours and Other Tourism Services
In Costa Lobo Mansion, you can admire a cosy and peaceful environment, and at the same time an elegant, beautiful, carefully decorated and congenial atmosphere. The walls and the portraits tell stories of many lives, the lives of those who lived in it. A voyage through time!
The house has a wide street façade with two magnificent entrances, nine balconies and a long upper balcony on the top. It was built on the top of the hill, called Alta de Coimbra (classified as World Heritage in June 2013), to the south we can see the Old Cathedral (Sé Velha) and the University; to the west the river Mondego and Santa Clara hill; to the east and north there are several suspended gardens and dwelling houses.
The Mansion was built along the centuries over medieval constructions, transformed in a family house owned by Coutinho Pereira Family. It was afterwards restored and rehabilitated, on the second half of the XIX century, by José de Souza Gonzaga that offered the house to his only daughter when she married the University Professor Francisco da Costa Lobo, therefore remaining in the family since that time till our days, as a family house to his descendants.
