Jewish Memorial Centre

The building where the Jewish Memorial Centre was installed is one of the most significant in the village of Vila Cova à Coelheira. Known orally among the population as a synagogue, there is no documentary evidence of it as a place of worship or prayer for the Jewish community.

The Centre values an identity that for centuries had to be hidden, so the exhibition focuses on the persecution launched by the Inquisition.

After this reconciliation with the memory of the community through the valorisation of the memory of the persecution, the aim is now to collect documentation about the life and families of Jews in Vila Cova à Coelheira.
