How to be a Digital Nomad in Portugal?

Work Remotely

Take on the challenge of working remotely and having the experience of living like a local in another country. In Portugal, you can count on sun, good weather and friendly people.

If you want to work remotely from Portugal, it is possible to obtain a temporary stay visa and a residence permit to carry out your professional activity, for an entity based outside the national territory.

To obtain a visa, you must follow the legal procedures, according to the Portuguese entities that you should consult for more information, but in summary:

- You must demonstrate the employment relationship, presenting the employment or service contract.
- You must present proof of average monthly income in the last 3 months, and with a minimum value equivalent to four minimum monthly salaries in Portugal. The purpose is to guarantee that you have income to live in Portugal during the proposed period.
- You must present a document proving your tax legal residency.

The digital nomad visa is granted for a period of less than one year and is valid for multiple entries into the national territory. Bear in mind that it is only mandatory to obtain a digital nomad visa if the period of stay is longer than the tourist visa, which in most cases allows you to stay in the country for up to 180 days. It is also possible for the remote worker's relatives to also apply for a temporary stay or residence visa, which will allow the family to join in national territory.

In Portugal there is also the possibility of obtaining a “Portugal Startup” visa, intended for entrepreneurs.
