Alamal Walkways
At Alamal beach, in the municipality of Gavião, besides enjoying a cool moment, you can take a short walk on the walkways along the Tagus river.
The walkways have 3 km between Alamal beach and the Belver bridge. It is a quiet, peaceful and easy walk, where you can enjoy the landscape and feel the characteristic aromas of the Alentejo, in communion with nature.
On the opposite bank, at the top of the hill, you can see the medieval castle of Belver, a place you can visit, where you can start the Short Circular Route that includes the Alamal Walkways.
Named “Arribas do Tejo” (Cliffs of the Tagus), the Short Route has 16 kms and passes the river twice, once through the Belver dam and the other through the iron bridge of National Road 244. Other points of interest are an old olive oil mill, Lagar da Fraga, the megalithic monument of the Dolmen of Penedo Gordo (Anta do Penedo Gordo), the river beach of Ortiga and the Belver dam.
