Nasim Khushnawaz inherited the tradition of the rubab, an Afghan folk instrument similar to the lute, from his father, Ustad Rahim Khushnawaz. Exiled in Iran, Khushnawaz has developed a connection with the techniques and secular repertoires of Afghanistan, khorasani and herati, explored in a touching and exemplary way on the album Songs from the Pearl of Khorasan. It is this unique universe, involving the audience in a beautiful collective trance, that he brings to Gulbenkian Music, supported by a series of highly emotionally charged themes with an unusual ability to surprise.
