The Vortice Dance Company, under the artistic direction of choreographers Cláudia Martins and Rafael Carriço, is ready to dazzle audiences at the Teatro Tivoli BBVA with the premiere of its reinterpretation of the classic "Carmina Burana" (Songs of Beuren). Taking it to a new level, she combines dance and new technologies with Carl Orff's powerful cantata.
The medieval profane poems and songs (12th, 13th century) written by monks in a convent in German Bavaria are the manuscripts that served as inspiration for Carl Orff's stage cantata. They exalt love, sex, drinking and dancing. Moments like "In Taberna quando summus" are relived in a strenuous and visceral way. It's a play in which all the characters are corrupted by the pleasures of the flesh and by lust, which, in this day and age, sometimes takes on the dimension of madness. It's a thrilling journey where the characters are truly left to their "Fortuna" (Luck).
This new approach to "Carmina Burana" is a celebration of the intersection between the past and the present, between classical art and contemporary innovation, providing a conceptually and visually exciting experience for the audience. It is a unique opportunity to experience this timeless work in a truly innovative format due to its immersive and transmedia nature. The audience is enveloped in an environment where visual, sound and technological elements blend harmoniously, through projections, dynamic lighting effects, choreography and interactive technologies. It is a creation whose intrinsic strength is nourished by the intensity of dance, the power of music and the deconstruction of new technologies.
This new creation is not only a tribute to the cultural legacy of 100 years of Teatro Tivoli BBVA and the work of Carl Orff, but also an exploration of the creative potential of contemporary dance in an increasingly technological world.
