José Vital Branco Malhoa (1855-1933) was a Portuguese painter, draughtsman and teacher who pioneered Naturalism in Portugal. He was a member of the "Grupo do Leão", a well-known tertulia of Portuguese artists (1881 to 1889) and was the first director of the National Fine Arts Society. The painter, who was born in Caldas da Rainha, lived part of his life in Figueiró dos Vinhos, where he died - Casulo Malhoa.
The painting Cuidados de Amor (Caring for Love), done by José Malhoa in 1905, is now on display at the Figueiró dos Vinhos Museum and Arts Center.
