São João d'Arga Pilgrimage
Events
On the 28th and 29th of August, the pilgrimage of São João d'Arga takes place, in the town of the same name. Every year, after the ascent to the mountain, pilgrims and visitors maintain the tradition of going around the chapel three times, followed by the giving of two alms: one to the saint and one to the devil.
The night from the 28th to the 29th is a great party, with lots of entertainment and good mood. The pilgrims from the neighbouring municipalities spend the night in the area surrounding the Monastery to watch the songs to the challenge, dance to the sound of the concertinas and taste the local specialties: brandy with honey, cornbread, chorizo, goat and green wine.
