On September 22nd, the Grand Auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, welcomes the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra with Cristina Branco, Raquel Tavares and Ricardo Ribeiro who take the stage to interpret some of the great hits of the great fado diva, Amália Rodrigues, in a show entitled "Amália in America". This program pays homage to the bridges of affection he built with America, affirming his universal Portugueseness.
In 1952, the artist conquered the American public by singing at "La Vie en Rose" in New York, a success that took to other venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Her repertoire combined traditional fados, Frederico Valério's fados-song, traditional Portuguese songs and Broadway and Hollywood hits. In 1966, she was even a soloist in symphonic concerts with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras, receiving great acclaim.
