Inspired by the novel of the same name by Miguel de Cervantes, it is one of the most famous ballets in the world. Choreographed by Marius Petipa and with music by Ludwig Minkus, it premiered in 1869 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

The story tells the adventures of the dreamy knight Don Quixote and his faithful squire Sancho Panza, as they search for the beautiful Kitri, a young woman in love with Basilio, a young barber. This ballet stands out for its energy, humor and the very technical and virtuoso movements of the Kiev Ballet dancers. The work is a celebration of classical dance, making it one of the most beloved pieces in the classical ballet repertoire.
