Japan: Festivals and Rituals
Japan: Festivals and Rituals
Events
Through more than 1500 pieces, exhibited here for the first time, this exhibition showcases the celebrations and their role in Japanese society, pillars of identity and community.
These festivals are celebrated in shrines, temples and homes, villages and cities. There are many beliefs in Japan and they share the same aspect: the importance of ritual. It is through its practice that harmony between men, nature and divinities is ensured, on which prosperity and the common good depend. Transmitted over generations, they reinforce the bonds of belonging between individuals and translate into values such as citizenship, social responsibility, human and environmental sustainability.
