Between the 31st of October and the 1st of November, Curral das Freiras, in Câmara de Lobos, on the island of Madeira, celebrates one of the most popular autumn fruits: the chestnut. This year's edition is very special, as it celebrates 40 years of history of this party.

Organized by the Casa do Povo of this parish, this event aims to boost and promote this important regional agricultural product. The event gives the opportunity to numerous visitors to taste the delicacies and derivatives of this dried fruit: roasted chestnuts, liqueurs, cakes among other specialties.

On the 1st of November, All Saints' Day is celebrated in Portugal, typical in Madeira. On the island, children go from door to door singing and sharing with other children the contents of their handmade cloth bags filled with chestnuts, bread, fruits and sweets.
