Deconstructing Colonialism, Decolonizing the Imaginary
Events
"Deconstructing Colonialism, Decolonizing the Imaginary. Portuguese Colonialism in Africa: Myths and Realities", will be on display at the National Museum of Ethnology – in its largest temporary exhibition room – until November 2, 2025.
The exhibition takes place in the context of the priority that the Museum gives to the study of the provenance of its extra-European collections and the reflection on the colonial context in which the museum was founded and proceeded to collect its first collections. The objective is to deconstruct the myths created by colonial ideology, decolonize the Portuguese imaginaries and contribute, in a pedagogical and accessible way, to a renewal of knowledge about the Portuguese colonial issue.
