SANAA : Sejima + Nishizawa
SANAA : Sejima + Nishizawa
Events
Inujima and Ibarari's projects represent distinct sides of the Japanese architecture studio SANAA and the independent practices of its founders, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, whose partnership for the past 30 years is celebrated through this exhibition, open until April 2025.
Thinking of architecture always from the context, the unifying structure of these two cases, although physically close, denotes very different political and cultural contexts. Inujima is a long-term commitment to a landscape typical of post-industrial Japan. The Imabari project consists of an office building designed for the Imabari Shipbuilding Corporation, in a shipyard near the island of Inujima. Both are the result of a prolonged practice over time, guided by a methodology of continuous learning and adaptation that understands architecture as an extension of the environment it shapes.
