31 Women. An Exhibition of Peggy Guggenheim
31 Women. An Exhibition of Peggy Guggenheim
Events
Organized by Fundación MAPFRE in collaboration with MAC/CCB, this exhibition brings to Portugal the collection organized by Peggy Guggenheim.
It was in 1943 that the collector organized, at her Art of This Century gallery in New York, one of the first exhibitions dedicated exclusively to the work of women artists in the United States. It intended to highlight the works of women artists, often discarded by the patriarchal mentality of the time and reduced to mere muses or companions of male artists. The artists selected for this exhibition come from Europe and the United States, with established figures but also new talents, especially linked to surrealism and abstract art.
