Contemporary Song. Works from the Mário Teixeira da Silva Collection
Contemporary Song. Works from the Mário Teixeira da Silva Collection
Events
The exhibition is dedicated to the first presentation in Serralves of the contemporary art collection created by gallerist and collector Mário Teixeira da Silva (1947 – 2023), recently deposited in the Serralves Collection.
Started in the 1970s, and guided by his personal taste, it reflects Mário Teixeira da Silva's rigorous and organic way of working and goes far beyond the simple gathering of a set of works of art. In his perspective, the work of art should promote reflection and research on the part of the user. Analysed in its most diverse aspects, it would allow the construction of a comprehensive view of the works and their creators. Photography was the privileged means of expression, however, its scope is clearly multidisciplinary, expanding in parallel with other media — including painting, sculpture, drawing and graphic work. It is also worth noting the interest shown in more recent decades in other areas, such as African tribal art and nineteenth-century and modernist painting.
