The D. Dinis Municipal Gallery hosts the exhibition Mestre José Vinagre – Treasure of Popular Art in Alentejo. Currently, 95 years old, José Vinagre is already one of the few artisans who still dedicates his time to working with cork, an abundant raw material in the region, both for the creation of utilitarian pieces and for pieces representative of the daily life of the Alentejo rural world.

As he worked almost all his life in agricultural activities, he reproduces from memory and with an impressive approximation to reality, the most varied instruments and scenes of rural life in Alentejo. The visitor will find in the exhibition pieces produced in recent years, by the skilled hands of this artisan and which are true testimonies that will transmit, to future generations, the memory of a Rural Alentejo, which has been disappearing over the last decades.
