The Sixteenth Century Market of Machico makes the historical recreation of the collective experiences of the captaincy of Machico in the early years of the 1500s, thus raising awareness of the defense of the cultural identity of the region, valuing it in the context of the Portuguese historical heritage.

Born at the Primary and Secondary School of Machico, in 2006, and organized in partnership with the Municipality of Machico and with the support of the Regional Government of Madeira, the event has the active participation of several educational establishments, cultural associations and institutions, mostly from the municipality.
