In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the death of Alvar Aalto, one of the most influential figures in the history of architecture, this exhibition highlights the vast legacy developed in collaboration with his two wives, Aino and Elissa. Together, the Aalto's transformed the humanist aspect of modern architecture, anchoring it in an organic relationship with nature and also creating a remarkable collection of design pieces.

Between the two world wars, the couple contributed to the construction of a national identity for young Finland, through emblematic works such as the Viipuri Library (now located in Russia), the Villa Mairea in Finland, the Baker House in the United States and the Maison Carré in France. At a time when antibiotics were still a novelty, the Paimio Sanatorium stood out as a global model of accessible health, with pioneering solutions in natural lighting, ventilation and even the design of silent washbasins. This building is the first of thirteen Aalto projects currently proposed for UNESCO World Heritage status.
