"Azulejos" in Portugal – An Ongoing History

This exhibition presents five centuries of Portuguese tiles, from the 16th century to the present day, in a total of 70 interesting works of reference from the National Tile Museum's collection. A special highlight is the tiles produced for the Lisbon Underground, with works by Maria Keil, Júlio Resende, Júlio Pomar, Manuel Cargaleiro and Eduardo Nery.
This exhibition offers a journey through more than five centuries of Portuguese tiles, from the first 16th century commissions to contemporary creations, highlighting the importance of tiles as an artistic expression and a distinctive heritage in the country's culture. Organized in collaboration with the National Tile Museum and curated by João Pedro Monteiro, it also reflects the importance of Tavira, a city with an important tile heritage.
