The Douro is a spectacular combination of river, landscape and terraced vineyards. It is a wine region with its own controlled denomination of origin, but it is also synonymous with another kind of D.O.C., this time standing for Degustação de Origem Certificada (Certified Taste of Origin).
The restaurant occupies a building constructed in a modern architectural style, standing on raised pylons and extending out over the river in the form of an elegant wooden deck. Designed by the architect Miguel Saraiva, the riverside structure has a quay with mooring space for up to 15 boats, a well-stocked wine cellar and a car park.
This is a magical place, framed by a stunning backdrop of schist hills where vineyards have been planted in terraces, forming the distinctive landscape of the Upper Douro Wine Region, now classified as World Heritage.
