Black Ancient Futures brings together works by 11 artists from the vast African diaspora, including Baloji, April Bey, Jeannette Ehlers, Lungiswa Gqunta, Evan Ifekoya, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Nolan Oswald Dennis, Gabriel Massan, Jota Mombaça, Sandra Mujinga and Tabita Rezaire. Some of them are presented for the first time in Portugal and, through different languages, propose a wide range of narratives and alternative landscapes to the dominant panorama of contemporary arts.

In this exhibition we can think of a universe of utopian spaces favorable to changes of points of view, both on racial and historical justice and on the hierarchy and geography of contemporary creation. The works result from the intersection of specific characteristics of African culture with other cultures and other geographical spaces and reveal their own energy, providing a universe of creative possibilities.
