MAAT is presenting a retrospective of Pedro Casqueiro (Lisbon, 1959), bringing together around 80 works, mainly paintings, produced between 1980 and 2024. An artist represented in the EDP Foundation Art Collection, he stood out from an early age for his chromatic and compositional energy, exploring the boundary between figuration and non-figuration, image and word. His work moved from vibrant textures and intense colors to graphic compositions, with clear lines, irregular patterns, ambiguous lettering and deliberately altered modernist architectures. Diverse and ironic, his work challenges visual and conceptual conventions, reflecting an ongoing investigation into the limits of contemporary painting.
