Events

For several days, Guimarães celebrates the patron saint of students, Saint Nicholas, with the popular Nicolinas festivals. During this period, there are several activities that are part of the structure of the celebration and take place on different days. One of the most popular is the "Pinheiro", which brings together hundreds of people in the city, all of them with their bass drum or box (percussion instruments), filling the streets with entertainment, and accompanying a pine tree transported by an ox cart, to the city center, to the sound of a common rhythm, known by all the people of Guimarães.

The Nicolinas Festivities are considered the oldest Festivities in Guimarães and represent an intangible testimony of the cultural heritage of Guimarães.
